If you feel Loughborough Grammar School could be the right school for your son, the next step is to apply. For entry into Years 7–10, applicants will be invited to sit an Entrance Assessment, while Sixth Form applications are considered through interview, school reference and GCSE results.
We recommend applying early, and we’re always happy to guide you through the process or discuss individual circumstances, including in-year applications.
Yes. We would be delighted to welcome you back to Loughborough Grammar School. We regularly hold admissions events throughout the year, including Open Doors, Open Days and Open Evenings.
If your son would like to experience a typical school day, we also offer taster days, including dedicated Year 7 and Sixth Form events, as well as individual taster days at other times.
If you would prefer a more personal visit, we would be very happy to arrange this for you.
Pastoral care is at the heart of life at Loughborough Grammar School. Our approach is proactive and individualised, with Form Tutors, Heads of Year and specialist pastoral staff working together to ensure every boy feels known, supported and able to talk to an adult they trust.
Pupils can also access The Nest, our dedicated Health and Wellbeing Centre, which provides a private and nurturing space for support with physical, emotional, social and mental health concerns. Our pastoral and wellbeing teams work closely with pupils, families and, where appropriate, external agencies to make sure each boy receives the right support at the right time.
Preparation for life beyond Loughborough Grammar School begins well before Sixth Form. Through our Careers and Futures programme, pupils are encouraged to explore their strengths, interests and ambitions, with personalised guidance helping them make informed choices about their next steps.
As pupils approach university applications, a specialist team provides expert support across UCAS, Oxbridge, clinical and international applications, as well as degree apprenticeships. From choosing courses and universities to preparing applications and interviews, each pupil receives guidance tailored to his individual aspirations.

An all-boys school on a co-educational campus
Our all-boys setting allows us to specialise in every aspect of education tailored to boys. From the classroom to the playing field, we understand how boys learn, grow and engage best. This specialist focus helps our pupils thrive, developing confidence, independence and a love of learning.
Our campus is alive with co-educational collaboration, particularly with our sister school, Loughborough High School. Highlights include Music, Drama, Sport, the Combined Cadet Force, A Level subjects, Sixth Form enrichment and a vibrant social calendar. These shared experiences promote mutual respect, broaden perspectives and help build lasting friendships.
A rich sporting culture
Sport is a central part of school life from Year 6 through to Year 13. Our Games Programme offers outstanding opportunities in four core sports: rugby, football, hockey and cricket, supported by specialist coaches who work closely with every pupil to help them reach, and often exceed, their potential. Along the way, boys build lasting friendships and develop values that stay with them for life.
Our staff bring exceptional experience, including current and former professional athletes competing nationally and internationally, giving pupils genuine insight and valuable sporting connections. Weekly training sessions cater to all age groups, while more advanced players are encouraged to support coaching younger teams, deepening their understanding of the game.
Beyond the core sports, pupils can access a broad programme including triathlon, badminton, athletics, swimming and basketball. Through our partnership with Loughborough University Tennis Academy (LUNTA), elite tennis players benefit from high-performance training alongside academic excellence, following in the footsteps of LUNTA alumni such as Henry Searle, 2023 winner of Wimbledon Boys Singles.
Our Student Athlete Programme further supports those competing at regional and national level, promoting long-term development, performance and wellbeing.
