Catering and Healthy Eating

Having prepared over 175,000 meals each year, the catering team at Loughborough Grammar School understand how important nutritionally balanced meals are for our boys.

Each lunchtime in the dining hall, boys get a choice of healthy and nutritious hot meals from our traditional food counter, the pasta bar, or the jacket potato counter. There is also the option of a freshly filled baguette or bap, self-serve salad options, fresh fruit and a hot and cold dessert selection.

For breakfast, Harry’s Tuck Shop provides freshly cooked breakfast items to take away, as well as a range of snacks and treats during break and lunchtimes, and for those who take part in clubs or music lessons over lunchtimes, the catering team provide a freshly made packed lunch.

Our experienced catering team have been trained to follow and understand a wide range of dietary needs, including those related to culture, religion and allergies.

Additionally, we have a dedicated boarding catering team who provide healthy, delicious and comforting meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week for our boarders.  Each term for one week, the boarders take over the menu to choose their favourite meals, with the catering team never failing to rise to the challenge!

Our Food Promise outlines our commitment to providing high-quality, nutritious and delicious meals. We focus on using premium ingredients from quality, trusted, local suppliers to produce a wide range of healthy meals every day.

Our Food Promise

Where possible, we avoid processed and genetically modified ingredients and limit the use of salt in the food we prepare. We also avoid MSG and do not use undesirable food colourings, sweeteners, flavourings, preservatives or trans fats*.

As well as hot, cooked lunches, we offer a self-serve salad bar, boasting a wide range of freshly made salads, and a choice of fresh fruit options.

We use local suppliers to provide us with seasonal, locally grown produce, as well as local butchers who source British meat with Red Tractor accreditation, and free-range eggs collected from local farms.

All meat we serve, including Halal meat, meets the five freedoms of animal welfare and our fish is certified by the Marine Stewardship Council or the Marine Conservation Society.
