Wool Club encourage local community to crochet for Remembrance
Pupils in our Wool Club have spent the last six months creating handmade crocheted poppies out of yarn in preparation for a striking Remembrance Day display this November.
The boys have been learning the new skill as part of their weekly sessions and, along with parents, grandparents and friends, the Loughborough Grammar School community has already made over 560 knitted poppies!
The poppies will be used to decorate the central Quad and Tower leading up to the Remembrance service, in recognition of those who sacrificed their lives in service.
Having already engaged Loughborough Grammar School’s staff, parent and alumni network, the boys are now appealing to the wider Loughborough community to help make the display as impactful as possible.
It’s been incredible to see how invested the boys are in making the poppy project a success. Not only have they spent hours in the library creating their own poppies but they have also taken the initiative to get as many other people as possible involved. I can’t wait to see the display take shape and couldn’t be prouder of the Wool Club for pursuing such a creative idea.

The boys are appealing to the wider community to contribute their own crocheted poppies. Crochet patterns and a step-by-step video can be found on the Royal British Legion’s website and YouTube channel. Completed poppies, for inclusion in the display, can be brought to Loughborough Grammar School’s Reception before the end of October.
