Half-Term Highlights: February 2025

From library initiatives to Lunar New Year celebrations and student successes, the first half-term of 2025 has been a busy but exciting time.

Tutor Read Scheme Returns for Another Year

In January, Year 9 pupils were introduced to our Tutor Read programme and all received an exciting new book from the School Library – Gary Paulsen’s Hatchet. Aimed at encouraging our pupils to pick up a a book and read recreationally, the initiative sees boys reading collectively during form time, developing their own love of reading and building vocabulary and critical thinking skills.

Lunar New Year Celebrations

Lunar New Year celebrations took place in a dedicated whole School assembly where boys told the story of The Great Race through visual display as pupils who took part represented one of the twelve zodiac animals. With decorations displayed around the hall, pupils learnt about the significance of the celebration. Pupils also had the opportunity to come along to a dumpling making session at lunchtime, held in one of our boarding houses – Denton House. Pupils enjoyed making the traditional dish (and the taste-test afterwards!)

International Dinner

Our annual International Dinner was a huge success as pupils enjoyed a three-course meal alongside an exciting quiz featuring questions from cultures around the globe. The event is a fantastic celebration of Loughborough Schools Foundation’s boarding community as each boarding pupil invited a friend to join them, reflecting how deeply integrated our boarding pupils are into the life of our Schools.

European Youth Parliament Victory

Loughborough Grammar students recently represented our School at the European Youth Parliament UK Regionals in Birmingham. After working together to take part in a range of engaging debates, we’re extremely proud to say that they won! Congratulations to all pupils involved who will be going on to represent the School at the finals this summer.
