Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE)

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a natural progression for those who love the outdoors. We believe it is such a great scheme that all our boys commence Bronze in Year 9. We think a ‘Grammar School Boy’ can achieve the award without much trouble, given all the things they are already involved in. If there are gaps, such as volunteering, we can arrange these in school.

Many boys move on to Silver in Year 10 and Gold in Year 12. The Gold Award in particular tallies with our Professional Development Pathway.

Each level of the Award also involves two expeditions. At Bronze, we do these in the local area, moving to the Peak District for Silver and then ‘Wild Country’ for the Gold. Due to our size, we are an independent operating authority, which means that these are staffed by our own teachers and our own pool of qualified outdoor education staff. This means that your son will have familiar faces and expectations as he works his way up the award structure.
