David Ravel (1999)

David Ravel left Loughborough Grammar School in 1999 with a strong academic grounding and a deep well of confidence, qualities that have underpinned a varied and unconventional career. Now a Wealth and Talent Advisor with one foot in high finance and the other in entertainment and media, David’s professional life is both eclectic and global in scope. A recent highlight has been serving as Executive Producer for Better Man, the biographical film about Robbie Williams.

School Memories and Lasting Friendships

David speaks warmly about his time at Loughborough Grammar School, recalling a vibrant community of friends, inspiring teachers and the independence afforded to pupils.

His days at the School were filled with early-morning gatherings in the P block, experiences in the Combined Cadet Force (with fond memories of Mr Beasley) and involvement in drama. Sixth Form helped to prepare him for the academic and social demands of university.

David remains close to many of his contemporaries and still attends Loughburians’ events when possible.

From the City to the Silver Screen

Initially set on becoming a pilot, he earned his Private Pilot Licence while still at school. David went on to study at the London School of Economics. Like many of his generation, he was drawn into investment banking, though he soon realised the world of high finance wasn’t quite the golden path it had promised to be.

After three intense years in banking, a move into private wealth management provided a better balance. It also gave him the flexibility to explore new opportunities alongside his day job, gradually developing a “portfolio career” across a wide range of industries.

“The technical rigour of banking combined with strong social skills gave me the confidence to start exploring other paths. Over time, that’s led to a blend of wealth management, non-executive roles, and creative partnerships in music, TV and film.”

This crossover eventually saw David supporting clients in both their finances and professional lives, managing talent, and even connecting creative figures with investment through his family office networks. His work on Better Man emerged through such collaborations as he was introduced to the film’s Director Michael Gracey through a mutual contact the two quickly formed a strong working relationship.

The Shape of Work Now

David is now based at LGT Wealth Management, where half his time is spent in traditional financial advising  and the other half developing relationships in the talent space. He works closely with athletes, creatives, and private members’ clubs. He is also a co-founder of the Sustainable Textiles Alliance, an industry initiative aiming to reduce the environmental impact of fashion and fabric production.

His career highlights to date include guest lecturing at LSE, working alongside the Princely family of Liechtenstein  and building partnerships with high-profile figures across film, sport and music.
