As exam season gets underway for pupils across the country, our GCSE and A Level students have received a range of revision and exam support to help them reach their full potential including revision resources, exam advice and dedicated workshops.
Whilst we work closely alongside the boys throughout the course of the year to understand what revision and exam support they may need, the months leading up to their exams are a key time to remind our pupils to engage with the support network Loughborough Grammar School has to offer.
Both Year 11 and Year 13 pupils receive a copy of our LGS Learner Guide – a resource dedicated to supporting learning at home by providing structures and ideas to help make revision as effective as possible. From understanding individual learning styles to recall, retrieval and reflection techniques, the guide aims to help pupils take responsibility for their own learning.
Building upon this, Year 11 pupils have also had the opportunity to attend; a comprehensive set of revision sessions organised by subject during lunchtimes from February to April; drop-in Modern Foreign Languages sessions for speaking practice in the lead up to speaking exams; Easter holiday revision sessions; and one-to-one help during study leave.
Boys in Year 13 have also benefitted from revision assemblies from both Head of Loughborough Grammar School, Mr James Neville, and Sixth Form Academic Co-Ordinator, Mr Ben Körösi. These sessions focused on the most up-to-date learning techniques for improving memory and recall and were followed by a session looking at ‘how to make the most of your mocks’ to ensure that, as part of their revision, boys reflected on what went well and how they can improve. The key message running throughout emphasised that small changes, over time, lead to a big difference.
Complementary classroom-based sessions have also provided the time for students to create effective revision timetables and logs, helping them to embark upon study leave feeling as prepared as possible.
