Sea Kayaking, Wild Camping and Mountain Hiking

,

Action-packed and full of adventure, Year 12 pupils recently returned from an exciting sea kayaking expedition in Scotland. The six-day tour saw the group kayak along stunning Scottish coastline, camp amidst nature and witness some unforgettable sunsets.

Setting off from the Isle of Seil, Oban, the group embarked on their sea kayaking journey, guided by the expertise of Sea Kayak Scotland and their in-depth knowledge of the local area. They paddled through choppy open seas towards their first natural campsite, taking in cliffside views and interesting rock formations along the way.

Upon reaching the shallow bay where they would camp for the night, a campfire was lit and a stone skimming competition got underway. The following day saw the group venture further down the coast towards campsite two.

On the final day of the tour, after kayaking back to Argyll Kayaker Cove, the boys were taught how to safely do a kayak roll. This important technique is vital to sea and whitewater kayakers who need to right a capsized kayak whilst still in the boat.

Before returning home, the group were led on a hill walk by members of LGS staff who are experienced mountain leaders. The group hiked to the top of a Munro – a mountain in Scotland with a height over 3,000 feet – before stopping to take in waterfall views on the way back down.

Full of fantastic memories and exciting experiences, the trip was an excellent way to bring the year to a close.
