Sporting success this half-term
It has been an exciting period for sport across Loughborough Schools Foundation, with pupils competing, and succeeding, at county and national level.
Our U15 footballers reached the final eight of the prestigious ISFA National Cup, placing them among the top independent school teams in the country. Although their journey ended in the next round, reaching the national last eight was a huge achievement and reflects the strength of our football pathway especially during the first year of football on our curriculum.
We are equally proud of William, a Year 9 pupil at Loughborough Grammar School, who was selected to captain the ISFA England Under 14 team! William was initially nominated by the School to attend the ISFA Midlands trials, part of the Independent Schools Football Association’s national pathway. After progressing to represent the Midlands at the ISFA National Tournament, he was selected for the England squad and went on to captain the side in fixtures against Arsenal Academy.Next week William is playing for ISFA against a Leeds Academy Team and we wish him the best of luck as he travels to Norway after half term to represent the Leicester City Academy U14 team in an International European Club Tournament.
In rugby, our U15 team has progressed to the county finals, continuing a strong and competitive season. I’ll be cheering them on from the muddy sidelines in their match next half term which will be against Oakham or Lutterworth and we await the date and location of the final.
Meanwhile, Loughborough High School celebrated an outstanding day at the Team Leicestershire county netball finals, delivered in partnership with the Leicestershire Schools Netball Association. Both the Year 8 and Year 10 teams progressed to the final stage of the tournament, which brings together schools from across Leicestershire, Leicester City and Rutland. The Year 10 team were crowned County Champions, securing gold, while Year 8 earned an excellent silver medal finish.
Beyond competition, we are delighted to announce a new partnership between Loughborough Schools Foundation and Longcliffe Golf Club. Pupils will now receive coaching from one of the club’s PGA professionals as part of their games programme, with expanded co-curricular opportunities launching in the summer term for students across all schools in our Foundation. This partnership will undoubtedly enhance our sporting provision and reflects our commitment to broadening pathways across a diverse range of sports.
Fittingly, William, who is also an LGS Sports Scholar, is playing a leading role at Longcliffe where he has been appointed Junior Captain at the club during the traditional Captain’s Drive-In. William is already planning initiatives to support junior members and raise funds for LOROS during his year of captaincy – a great example of leadership extending beyond school sport.
