Half-Term Highlights: December 2024

The last half-term of 2024 has been full of hard work, success and opportunity for pupils at Loughborough Grammar School. Our boys have been busy immersing themselves into school life and have also enjoyed some festive fun along the way!

Assembly with an Olympian

Olympian Alex Haydock-Wilson gave an incredibly inspiring talk to our pupils during one of our whole school assemblies. Drawing on his experiences both as a professional athlete and as a PhD student at Loughborough University, Alex emphasised the importance of goal setting to the boys; the key to being successful is making room for uncertainties and embracing them when they arise. The assembly couldn’t have come at a better time as pupils prepare for their mock exams, which take place in the New Year.

Rewards and Recognition

Each half term, we celebrate both academic and co-curricular achievements though a rewards and recognition assembly. Over the last two weeks of term, boys across year groups were rewarded for their dedication and contributions to school life, including to drama, music, Corp of drums, debating and bridge. Pupils are also awarded for their Merit points and are entered into an exciting prize draw! Congratulations to all pupils for their hard work this term.

Seasonal Celebrations at our Boarders’ Christmas Dinner

A key event in the Grammar School calendar, our Boarders’ Christmas Dinner was full of fun and festivity. Pupils enjoyed a delicious roast dinner, with all the traditional trimmings, and took part in an exciting Christmas quiz. It was a great opportunity to celebrate the festive season and look ahead to the New Year.

The Festive Fun Continued!

Festivities continued towards the end of term, especially for our Year 7 pupils who took part in two annual traditions – the Year 7 Pantomime and the Santa Fun Run. The boys’ performance of Aladdin, in front of family and friends, highlighted how much time and preparation went into rehearsals. Followed by the Fun Run, pupils donned their Santa outfits on the last day of term to take part in a cheerful festive tradition which definitely bought some added Christmas spirit to the Grammar School campus.
