Our state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre has been named a regional winner in the Best Public or Community Building category in the LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Building Excellence Awards 2025 and therefore shortlisted for the grand finals. The awards celebrate outstanding design, construction quality and community impact in the built environment.
The impressive redevelopment, designed by A+G Architects and delivered by Kingfisher Construction, has transformed the existing building into a bright, modern and sustainable space designed to inspire collaboration, independence and academic excellence among students preparing for university and life beyond school.
Partly funded through a generous legacy gift from alumnus Arthur Shepherd (LGS 1914), the project represents a lasting investment in the education and wellbeing of current and future generations. The building now offers flexible study areas, collaborative working zones, and quiet reflection spaces, all supporting our commitment to nurturing
self-motivation, intellectual curiosity and leadership skills among Sixth Form students.
Headmaster Mr James Neville said: “Our new Sixth Form Centre represents much more than a physical transformation; it demonstrates our belief in preparing young people for the next stage of their lives with confidence. The space has already become a vibrant hub for independent learning, debate and social connection, helping boys develop the balance
of focus and adaptability that modern life demands.
“We are immensely proud that the Sixth Form Centre has been recognised by the LABC, and grateful to Kingfisher Construction and A+G Architects for their exceptional craftsmanship and dedication in bringing our vision to life.”
Mr Phil Holland, Managing Director of Kingfisher Construction said: “It has been a privilege to work alongside Loughborough Schools Foundation to deliver this project. Seeing the Sixth Form Centre now full of energy and purpose is incredibly rewarding for our team, and to have that work recognised by the LABC is a fantastic achievement. We’re proud to have
played a part in building a facility that will benefit generations of young people for years to come.”
The LABC Awards recognise buildings that demonstrate technical excellence, innovation and a positive impact on local communities. The final winners will be announced at a ceremony next year.
